Hacktivisme - dyne.org

dyne.org
dyne:bolic, som vi omtalte i forrige indlæg, er et projekt inden for rammerne af dyne.org, en græsrodsbevægelse med base i Amsterdam, Holland.

På sin hjemmeside beskriver bevægelsen sig som "a nonprofit foundation lead by a grassroot committee of hackers dedicated to development of free and open source software for the freedom of speech and creation", hvis mål i sidste ende er at bidrage til, at den moderne teknologi ender med at gøre samfundet mere frit frem for det modsatte:
to promote the idea and practice of open source knowledge sharing within civil society by fostering research, development, production and distribution of Free Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) based solutions: by opening the partecipation to online and physical communities, leveraging democratical and horizontal access to technology and lowering economic requirements for accessibility.

To produce software that runs faster and better on old computers. As the possibility to recycle hardware is an important ecological issue, we claim legitimacy to hack all electronical devices that can be useful.

To foster use of FLOSS in comunication and artistical creation: exploring new forms of expression and interaction, disseminating new languages that can be freely adopted and modified, ensuring everyone the long term conservation of people's creations.
I projektets weblog finder vi en længere statusbeskrivelse, som jeg her tillader mig at gengive i sin helhed:
After 5 years of its existance, dyne.org distributed an operating system that has been printed in more than 500.000 copies around the world (rough estimation on downloads and magazine publications), while every day almost 5000 people hits our websites.

Dyne:bolic hit the top 10 of open source projects in 2005.

And now, with the help of the Netherlands Institute for Media Art, dyne.org has been established as a foundation.

This is our statute: what we are going to do, what all the people already involved in present software projects are doing.

As the initiator and mantainer of most dyne.org software projects i’ve been motivated by some specific Ideals, including the Rastafari notion of Creation and the importance of its Freedom.

And today i’m very happy that i’m not alone, more people joined development, we are now almost a dozen hackers active on various projects here, all quite young and bright minds i’d say :-)

While we are now a formally recognized non-profit organization in Europe, we have no funds to spend and the mantainance of the software we do is not sustainable on the long term. We need solutions to that, on the Sustainable Source website there are very good reflections on how we can progress supporting each other, users and developers.

So long, thanks everyone for showing your appreciation, partecipating and motivating all our efforts. Now let’s rock the GNU 2006 year with some fresh software releases!
